Main Article Content
Abstract
Tobacco use is a major health problem with rising prevalence and mortality rates in some parts of the world, especially in developing countries. Worldwide, the annual incidence exceeds 3,000,000 new cases. Prognosis of oral cancer differs significantly between specific oral locations, with carcinoma of the lip, for example having a much better prognosis than at the base of the tongue or on the gingiva. Prognosis of intra-oral cancer is generally poor, with a five-year survival of less than 50 percent (1).
